Frank Lloyd Wright Inspired Composition Prints
Students learned about the American architect and designer, Frank Lloyd Wright. They studied his buildings, Fallingwater and the Guggenheim Museum, some of his furniture design, and looked at his beautiful stained glass windows. They used his love of clean lines and shapes to create their own compositions (arrangements) of line and shapes. These compositions were engraved into Styrofoam and used to create many copies through the printmaking process. This was a fun and challenging process and students enjoyed practicing and refining their printing technique to get better and clearer images. The reveal of each print was so exciting! Afterwards, students chose their best work and mounted it, or framed it, for presentation. Check out some of these excellent final prints below. Awesome work!
Pop Art Color Theory Flowers
Students learned about the Pop Art movement of the 1950's and Andy Warhol, a Pop Artist who grew up right here in the Pittsburgh region! They looked at his sunflower paintings and used this and some color wheel knowledge to make their own sunflowers. They used tints (color + white) and shades (color + black) and complementary colors (colors that are opposite from each other on the color wheel and make each other POP!) Even if they didn't all get finished, they still look amazing together! Nice job!
