Georgia O'Keeffe Inspired Flowers
Students learned about the artist, Georgia O'Keeffe and her big drawings of flowers. They looked at how she used organic lines and soft, blended colors to create paintings of different plants. In her style, students learned to draw large flowers with organic lines flowing off of the page. They then used the color wheel to blend colors next to each other on the color wheel and then used complementary colors to make their flowers POP off of the background.
** Many of our friends in this class were at home for this flower art project, and although we don't have photographs of all of them, I can assure you -- all those made at home were also awesome!!

"Mola" Animal Drawings
For this projects, students learned about a style of artwork called "Mola" from the Kuna tribe of Panama. These "Mola" are originally textile, or fabric-based, artworks sewn with a variety of colors, lines, and often depicting animals. Students practiced making outlines of a variety of objects before selecting an animal to focus on for their project. Then, they used oil pastels to draw their animals and filled in the backgrounds with "Mola"-styled line designs (maze-like structures, swirls, stripes, spots, and zig-zags).
Finally, students prepared their artwork for presentation and display by mounting their "Mola" designs onto one or more sheets of colored paper to make creative frames which they then decorated to make their drawings look amazing! Wow!
